The bird jerked his head back and forth, setting the wolves in his sights. Atlas was pleased that Kairis had asked the question that had been on his tongue. He admired her foresight and intelligence. She leaned against him as they awaited the bird's answer, and he felt a strange feeling overtake him. A partnered feeling. He trusted and respected Kairis like he would a pack member. He did not expect to feel a pack bond with an outsider wolf, but it was there all the same.
The raven, Quidi-too, perked up and disrupted his train of thought.
"A long journey, it may be, cannot be too long for me."
Quidi-too looked up into the trees, looking kind of sorrowful.
"I have no family to endear, nothing else can keep me here."
Atlas watched the glossy black bird, wondering what fate might have befallen a family of ravens. He quickly decided it was time to fill the bird in on what he was expected to do.
"Listen, Quidi-too. I am on the hunt for several wolves, traitors to my pack. My task is to find them and deliver their punishments personally. I wish to employ you to fly high and far, where we cannot go, and help us to track them."
He went on to describe the coat colors of the other wolves, their supposed whereabouts, and other tidbits of information that might be helpful to one searching for them. The raven cawed.
"Alot of things you do speak of, remembering all things could be tough."
"I understand," Atlas said, "I would be grateful for reports of any wolf sightings from your high view, If only to save us from having to track them. You find wolves. We will do the rest."
Quidi-too looked at them for several moments then erupted.
"That I certainly can do! Try my best to assist you."
Atlas dipped his head politely.
"Thank you, good raven. We'd like to get started, if you are ready?"
The raven hopped, quorked, and nodded.
"Easy will be to keep you in view, White wolf's coat make it simple to do."
He flew up and slightly above the tree tops, making a light cawing that the wolves were able to recognize as belonging to Quidi-too.
"We might as well follow," Atlas said, and set off at a trot with Kairis near, hoping the raven's abilities would come through.

Kairis felt a sense of pride in herself as she listened to the bird talk. She had never been one to take charge before and the experience was new to her. Either way, the female sat still and listened to the raven, Quidi Too was its name with interest.
Soon they were off and Atlas led the way, followed by Kairis and the Raven circling over head. She noticed that sometimes he would leave and when she thought that he may have abandoned the task the dark bird would show up again. Kairis made sure to stay within easy sight for the bird since it had metioned that it would be able to find them by her white fur. It was interesting Kairis thought, that her fur would actually come in handy. Mostly she thought of it to be a slight nusiance since she stood out so badly in all seasons except winter.
They continued on for sometime as Kairis trotted at a steady pace keeping close to Atlas while trying to find a sent. Her stomach growled slightly and it caused her to faulter. How long had they been travelling anyways? She sighed and moved in next to Atlas at a walk. Kairis didn't say anything at the moment and just enjoyed the closeness of the wolf. It seemed crazy to her now wondering how she had been able to go without company for so long. Kairis had not realised how much she had missed being close to others and working with them. She guessed that wolves were natural pack animals and wondered on how unatural it was for her to be living on her own like she had been for the last few years....
As one thought led to another, she eventually ended up thinking about her partner. Kairis looked at the hazel eyes of the male and smiled gently. His face made her want to stop and contemplate. Usually wolves are so hard to read but Atlas was tricky. All those years of strict pack life must have been so demanding... Kairis felt a sympathy for Atlas. Did he even know how to enjoy himself? Why was it that it seemed to her that it was so hard for him to express his emotions? Surely he had to have them didn't he? She thought and fell back a little till she was walking behind him.
Did Atlas even know how to have fun? Kairis closed her green eyes for a moment and then was struck with a brilliant idea.. or so she thought. Lowering her frame to the ground she crept forwards silently, stalking the male and she eyed his tail suspiously. When she was close enough she sprang forwards and gave it a small, but solid nip.
"You're it!" the fae exclaimed before bounding away expecting to be chased down by the bigger wolf. Kairis was laughing to herself and she turned around to look at Atlas. Raising her eyebrow she gave a smirk and waited for the male to clue in on the game... he did know how to play... right? She thought and then let her tail lower.. but what if he didn't?

Atlas stopped in his tracks as something nipped his tail. His face was full of surprise.
"You're it!"
He turned slowly to see Kairis leaping away and laughing. She stopped and looked back, expectantly.
"It? What is 'it'? He asked, genuinely stumped. As a pup, he had not been permitted to play games, except for practice fighting. So naturally, he was not familiar with this one. He could see that whatever it was, it was a great source of enjoyment for Kairis. But he stood looking quizzically at her.
A flapping noise preceded the raven Quidi-Too, as he hovered for a moment before finding a place to land. He hopped along the ground, looking up at the two wolves from nearby. The raven had sized up the situation, and cawed.
"Slowpoke Atlas, brain does lag, White wolf Kairis wants to play tag!"
Atlas looked at the bird. "Tag?"
The raven chattered noisily, and annoyedly beat his wings to bring himself higher. He clawed Atlas' head and flew above the trees again.
Atlas sighed. "I regrettably don't know how to play many games." He admitted. He dropped his head but waved his tail a bit. He had that burning feeling again as he looked at her. He felt bad that he had been dragging her along on this goose chase. He often forgot that Kairis was not like him, and had not been brought up in the same way. He forgot that she needed more than the mission to keep her going. The wolf noticed the sun's position in the sky and the rumble in his belly.
"Perhaps we should hunt now." He said, sniffing. He looked up to call out to Quidi-Too.
"Stay nearby, bird! There will be meat for you."
The raven gave a soft caw for an answer. Atlas turned back to his white companion.
"Come on Kairis, let's see what prey we can find."

A grim expression was plastered on Kairis' face as she looked on at the sight in front of her. Atlas did not know what tag was... Slowly her tail lowered and she padded forwards softly, leaving barely an indent in the light flakes of snow and frost. Looking upwards, Kairis stood next to Atlas when he suggested that they should go hunting.
Lightly she touched her nose to his and smiled, Kairis did not blame him for not knowing the game or how to play it... it just gave her more insight to the type of enviroment he was raised in. How the fae wished that she could rewind time and show the male how a pup is really supossed he live and be raised. They shouldn't have to be focused around their job or their future... a young wolf needed to experiment and learn for themselves and be able to find pleasure in the world without worrying about such hard problems at such a young age.
Happily she followed Atlas and the raven that flew overhead, she could hear him ocasionally squawk with excitment of the idea of fresh meat to feast on. It caused Kairis it smile slightly. Such a simple. simple bird... but Kairis hoped that the partnership with Quidi-Too would work out.
Using her keen ears, the white wolf could hear the various sounds of the wild as the evening darkened. Winter was fast approaching which was causing the wild life to become anxious trying to find a place to spend the cold months which in return made for easier hunting. Stalking forwards, Kairis sented a deer nearby and let out a very low toned mumble in her throat hopefully to get Atlas' attention.
There, not very far from her and past a few bushes was a very large stag. Her heart sunk slightly when she noticed the size and him and thought to herself that there was no way she would be able to bring him down till she saw its leg. The creatures front leg limb was twisted in such a way that it could not put any pressure on it or walk without stumbling awkardly. It cried out in pain and Kairis sucked in a deep breath, hoping that Atlas saw what she did and she crouched lower and then flung herself over the foliage and sunk her deadly canines into the animals juggular and bit down with extreme force.

Atlas quivered as Kairis smiled and touched his nose with hers. Inside, he melted. He found it suddenly difficult to fill his lungs. As she moved away, he inhaled deeply the breath he had not been able to catch. He turned to move toward hunting, his eyes still very wide from the feeling. Why was she constantly able to do this to him? She followed him quietly, focused on the task of hunting. Atlas was unable to focus on scents himself, but heard very clearly the growl Kairis made to get his attention. He looked where she was looking. In the brush, not many strides away, he saw a large stag, a buck that seemed to be injured. It was the chance of a lifetime. The animal would never be able to run well enough to escape them, and if it tried to fight them it would easily be tired out. Without hesitation, Kairis shot out it front of him and straight to the deer. It was completely surprised, as they had been upwind of the animal. She gripped the stag's throat and clamped down. Atlas knew he had to help her, and that buck would be theirs. He sprinted out and ran around to the buck's rear. He grabbed the very dangerous hock that was connected to a sharp hoof that could hurt if he wasn't careful. He heaved back, using his great weight to try and topple the deer. The stag was already holding up a front leg, and when Atlas yanked a second one out from under him, he toppled. Atlas knew if Kairis had a chance of killing the deer, it needed to be down. He'd done right, as he saw Kairis gripping with her teeth and the deer's legs stop moving. "Extremely . . . Well done," Atlas panted. Quidi-Too flew down and alighted to a low branch and cawed. "Teeth are stronger than my beak, Wolves tear first, and then I eat" Atlas glanced up at him and nodded. He stepped back to breathe for a moment. It was Kairis' kill, and he would give her room to eat first.

With teamwork the stag fell easily to its knees, and then soon gave up the fight surrendering itself to the wolves. Kairis released her grip when she felt the deers pulse dissapear and she licked her blood covered muzzle hungrily as she sented the air. The idea of eating fresh meat brought out the wild instinct in her and she tore viciously into the still warm carcass. Opening it up widely as she started on its soft organs.
After a minute or two, Kairis side stepped and looked up and Atlas and with a tilting motion of her head she invited the male to join her to eat. It would have been very difficult to bring down the buck herself even though it was already injured. She ate until her stomach felt full and content, and then the female broke off a rib bone and walked away from the meal to chew in her bone.
"We make a pretty good team, huh?" the white wolf stated and crossed on front leg over the other before lowering her head onto them to continue entertaining herself with the bone. It still tasted fresh in her mouth and the marrow inside was delious. As she ate she watched Atlas. Her stomach flipped and Kairis looked away, pretending to be interested in whatever was in the bush when infact she was lost in her own thoughts. Not growing attached to the soldier would be a difficult task as it was already proving to be. Kairis just kept telling herself over and over that the male had no interest in her. That they were working together strictly to find the wolves. Everything that has happened so far as been in the best interest of tracking the wolves, not in helping her out...
with a sigh, her green eyes lingered on Atlas, as she busied her mind in imagining what it would be like if he was in love ith her....

Atlas watched Kairis as she hungrily tore the fresh meat, and swallowed hunks. She ate well, and Atlas admired her. She turned to him after a moment, her lovely face bloodied from the meal. Atlas thought it made her look even more beautiful, and he smiled at her.
ATLAS, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
It was that voice again. The one that came when he felt that warm churning feeling in his guts. It never failed. It was the soldier in him, the wolf of rank, the Argessian back bone. That wolf he had known himself to be his entire life. But now, with Kairis . . . He was learning of this other wolf. This complete stranger that lived within him. It liked being close to her. It liked hunting with her. It liked everything about her. And more than that, it liked being it's own Alpha, It liked making it's own choices, It liked this new sense of freedom.
Atlas ignored these battlings inside him, his brows tilted in uncertainty. He walked softly up to the newly killed food and chewed off several steamy chunks. His stomach was full quickly, on account of wolves being very good gorger's. Kairis pulled off a bone and settled down nearby to chew it.
"We make a pretty good team, huh?" She said after a moment. Atlas turned to her, his skin hot and his fur pricking. By now, he had grown accustomed to feeling peculiar around her every so often, just as he had when he'd first met her.
"Yes," He said quietly, "We do."
His ears rang as he said it and Atlas nearly thought he'd gone deaf. Quickly, he shouted out to make sure he wasn't.
"Quidi-Too!"
He turned his attention quickly on finding the raven, not wanting to see Kairis' reaction. What if she suspected what she was doing to him? What if she knew how he was beginning to feel? Would she leave quickly? Would she think he was stupid or weak? Or . . . he shockingly thought, would she stay? Embrace him even?
"QUIDI-TOO!" Atlas bellowed. He needed a distraction and he needed it now.
"Atlas likes to scream and yell, Extremely easy for me to tell!"
The black bird squawked and flapped and settled down on the stag's belly. He looked back and forth at Atlas, clacking his beak.
"The meat you were promised," Atlas said, motioning to the deer. "We've torn it, you should be able to get your fill."
"Very lovely, thank you please, Could you help me with the thieves?"
The bird looked up worriedly, glancing around the branches.
"Other birds?" Atlas asked. "There isn't another bird in sight."
"See no feathers, wings or feet, But appear swiftly with the smell of meat."
Atlas glanced around, but didn't see anything. "Don't you worry, if they show up, I'll chase them off."

Kairis smiled at Atlas' reaction, she could visibly see now that he was softening up around her and it gave the female hope. Though the soft and gentle Atlas didn't last for long and if she would have blinked she would have missed it as he started calling for the bird. Out of the sky flew the raven and she listened to the conversation between the male and Quidi Too.
The rythmnic of his speak was getting to Kairis. Oddly she flet ashamed that she had ever felt ill manners towards birds before, thinking them to be simple minded and dense for lack of a better word. Hanging around this raven seemed to be proving the opposite when in fact it was quite intelligent.
Very lovely, thank you please, Could you help me with the thieves?"
The white lupis lifted her eyes to the sky and waited for the approach of other birds. It wasn't long before one by one they started to circle above the deer ocassionally dropping in towards Atlas, Kairis and Quidi Too to get closer to the meat. Kairis growled deep in her throat and sat next to the carcass then bit at a crow that flew mere inches from her scalp.
"Get outta here!" She stated and narrowed her emerald eyes in frustration. Now she remembered why there was dislike towards the flying creatures, they were such a nusiance and horrible scavengers... She lifted her paw and scratched her face with it as another crow flew too close and smacked her in the face with its wings. "One more time and Im gonna kill them..." She grumbled quietly and then looked over at Atlas to see how he was fairing.

Atlas watched as Kairis insulted the theif crows. Quidi Too watched worriedly, but bent over and began to fill his stomach. Atlas went to Kairis' side to assist in keeping the other crows at bay. It wasn't long before he heard Quidi too flap and fly up.
"Thank you wolves, I'm now all done, Now for wolves, I will find you one"
Atlas watched the bird and saw it climb the air up over the tree tops.
"Come on," Atlas said solemnly "Let's follow him."
A wave of saddness had hit the Argess wolf. He would've been fine, but he admitted he was not his normal self. He was changing. And it scared him. He quietly led the way, his head lifted, keeping an eye on the bird. He was silent, and as they drifted away from the carcass and away from the calling crows, so was the forest. The breeze blew sotfly and the sun came out. The pine needles and cedar bark smelled nice. But the bright surroundings only seemed to make Atlas more depressed. On they went for a mile or two, until the bird got ahead of them. The raven came back after being hidden from them and came down to perch on a tree nearby.
"Up ahead, there are rocks and cliff. Quite a climb if you are stiff."
"Big big rock pile I have found, Would you rather go around?"
Atlas listened and thought for a moment.
"How far is around? Have you scouted?"
The raven nodded.
"Rocks go on for maybe a mile, Walk would take you quite a while."
"Hmm," Atlas sat down. "How high would it be do you think?"
"I confess I do not know, Not the knowlegde of a crow."
The two-toned male looked at Kairis.
"I guess we'll have to look at it for ourselves, but going around would take alot of extra time. How are you at climbing?"

Climbing? Kairis had to admit it was not her favorite thing to do but if the walk around took up much needed time she was willing to attempt it. She shook out her white ruff and looked first and Quidi Too then at Atlas who was awaiting a reply.
"Im not terrible at it, I should be able to manage that.." She stated and thought that now with a full stomach and some energy, climbing should not be too difficult for her. She followed diligently the path that the raven had just returned from and walked close to Atlas, trying to keep pace.
Casually, her eyes would wander over the the male wolf and Kairis would catch herself and silently reprimand that behavior. How could she be losing self control this easily? Its not like I have known this wolf for any considerate length of time... she thought and then remembered how odd Atlas acted when they first met. A slight flicker of hope crossed her mind as she pondered on whether he was feeling any attachment at all. Sometimes he seemed to go really quiet as if he was caught in his own thoughts, but when Kairis would just start to wonder if something was up the male returned to his usual self.
Soon they arrived within sight of the massive rock and the white fae paused taking in how tall it was. She had climbed higher but never on choice and even then she was young and restless and the feat seemed a challenge that she could conquer.
Kairis let out a breath and slowly closed her eyes and then reopened them raising one eyebrow in question. "Wow...." She said and let her voice linger in the air between the three of them. then again, maybe this could be.... fun? Kairis chuckled lightly to herself at that single thought.

The two wolves looked up at the craggy rock face before them. Atlas had found what he determined to be the best possible climbing spot. He scanned the skies for the raven, but the bird seemed to have drifted away. Atlas trusted the bird though, and knew the clever raven was loyal to them. He could feel it.
"Just one step at a time, Kairis, and we shouldn't have any problems." He said.
The incline was steep, but not vertical. The rocks were placed willy nilly as if they had just tumbled here, but none of them were loose or wobbly. There were darkened holes in and among them, which Atlas hoped nothing would come out of. Paw by paw, he picked his way up the rocks, and looked back often to make sure Kairis was doing as well.
"It's not so bad, just have to-" Atlas started, but he stopped. He froze in mid climb, and whipped his head around to look at Kairis, his eyes wide as a signal to stop and be silent. Neither moved. All was silent.
"I thought I heard something." He said to Kairis quietly. "Guess not."
Before anything else could happen, A huge tawny body flew from out of nowhere, paws forward, claws extended and landed right in Atlas' side. He tumbled from the push, unable to stop the momentum, down, down, down, to the bottom of the face. The tawny brown body fell with him, and both picked themselves up at the same time. Atlas was face to face with a cougar. It had obviously claimed the rocks which he and Kairis were climbing. They had trespassed. No other reason was needed for the cat to attack.
The fall had bumped and hurt and bruised Atlas, but he did not hesitate to move. He braced his feet and his black lips unpeeled from around his white fangs, gleaming and deadly. A huge guttural coughing snarl bellowed from his chest. He put everything he had into being viewed as most terribly fearsome in order to deter the cougar. his hackles were raised, and the already big wolf looked twice as large. He snapped his jaw open in shut, showing the cat his weapons. The cat hissed.
Atlas preferred the cougar move along on it's merry way and leave them alone. He hoped his imposing threats would scare it off. Would they be enough?

Her claws scrambled periodically on the rocks as her foot would slide off. Huffing, the female pulled her weight back onto the rock and balanced there looking downwards. Blinking, she thought about how she could very well be afraid of heights, the sight of being so far up made the wolf a little light headed. It was then that she turned forwards and noticed Atlas looking at her... Kairis quickly turned away and jumped to the next rock, then the next. The white fae gawked and wondered how the male made it look so easy when she herself was about to tumbled over backwards.
A sent wafted towards her and Kairis froze still. In the back of her mind she heard Atlas say something about he thought he hear a sound but Kairis was too drawn into the smell to actually recognize what he was saying. That was a smell that she was quite familiar with... cougar. Quickly span around to warn the male of the sent when a tawny colored animal flew out of the bushes and took her partner with it.
Kairis yelped with fright at the sight of Atlas falling down the hard rocks tangled together with the predator. she too tumbled slightly as she leapt down towards the two animals, Kairis did not have a plan but as long as she could keep the cougar from killing Atlas that had to be enough right? As she closed in on them she felt slight relief when the male rose up and snarled furiously at the cat. If she had not been so determined the look on Atlas would have stopped her dead in her tracks as she had probably never seen a wolf look so terrifying to her before.
The female snarled just as loud as Atlas when she came up behind it and stayed a safe distance from the brutal strength and power in its paws and claws. She could almost bet that the cat could heard the thunderous beating of her frightened heart but the white wolf stood her ground and lowered her head and snapped at the cats tail before moving, circling it and keeping constant eye contact with the animal.
The cougar snarled back at the she wolf and lifted one paw and batted it in her direction, a clear threat to stay back. Kairis continued to move and stalk it until she was at Atlas's side where she stays and snarled next to her partner. She wondered how damaged the two toned male was and if he could fight if thats what it had to be. One thing for sure is that she would never let the cat kill him without having to kill her first. That was one lesson that had been heavily ingrained in her soul from pack life... the love and bond between members of your pack are strong enough to give your life for.

At once, after the scramble to rise up and challenge the cat, Atlas thought of Kairis. As He saw her leap down from the rocks and land behind the cougar, he was gripped with fear. Fear was new to him. It had been beaten out of him as a cub, trained out of him as an adult, and yet here it was, pounding through his head. Images of Kairis flashed through his mind. Images of her sprawled on the ground. Her beautiful white coat stained red. Her bright green eyes closed . . . in death. The pictures burned his insides, and his lungs deflated. Big hot breaths came through his nostrils, widening them. This fear . . . was not fear for himself. It was for Kairis, he realized. Fear for her safety. For her life. As she moved and finally reached Atlas, he felt better. If the cougar dared attack her, he would stop it. The cat wouldn't lay a claw on her. Not a claw. A primal sound came out of the wolf, almost like a roar. He stared the other creature down, becoming very feral, and his pupils shrank within his wide eyes. The big beige cat folded its ears back, and swished its tail. It raised one paw in offense and hissed. Suddenly, Atlas, who was filled to the brim with rage and fear, shot forward. Any wolf as worked up as he was extremely dangerous, and the cougar knew this well. The wolf barreled into the cat like a torpedo, his bulk knocking it over. He grasped the skin closest to him with his sharp white canines and tore, yanking and throwing his weight rapidly. The lion yowled and pierced its attacker with its claws, digging into the wolf's back to cause any kind of damage, It's primary goal to stop being ripped open. It did no good. Atlas was mad with adrenaline and his toxic emotion combination. Again he ripped the tawny furred hide of the mountain cat, it's blood staining it's white belly and the ground. It flipped on its back yowling, and anyone could see that it was now just desperate to get away. As Atlas came in again, the cougar slapped his muzzle with its claws extended. Atlas was deeply scratched, but he let the paw go by and dived for it's throat. The cat pulled it's back legs close to it's body, and as Atlas closed in, they sprung out and hit him, sending him rolling backwards. The lion did not waste it's chance, and dashed away to the right, it's back rolling in the classic cougar run. Atlas had gotten up and went to go in again. Instead he watched his enemy retreat. He stood, silent, panting. There were punctures all in his back, a big tear behind his ear, and a nasty long scratch across his cheek to his muzzles' bridge. But even as they dripped crimson, he didn't notice them. "Kairis . . . are you . . . you alright?" He panted, and turned to her. Seeing her, seeing her whole and safe, calmed him. Unfortunately, his fiery emotions were what had been keeping him standing. As the fire within him subsided, so did his strength. The two-toned wolf, beaten from the fall and exhausted from the fight, fell over with a thud.

Kairis gasped as Atlas lunged at the mountain lion. fear pulsed through her at the sight of the wolf making contact with the primal beast and her paws shook as she felt held in one spot dead still and silent. Not a sound came from her muzzle as she watched the two animals rip, claw and bite at each other with fury and rage. The massive paw of the cougar swung at Atlas and Kairis suddenly let out a growl as it made contact with his back.
Quickly she paced back and forth circling the cat making sure to keep a safe distance from the two and blood splattered on the ground and the fae seemed to notice that the cougar had changed its intention and was trying to escape the wolf driven with fury. Her heart pounded as she watched the cougars paw lash out again and get the dark male across the face. He did not seem to notice too much though and Kairis held her breath and prayed he was ok. She wanted so desperately to jump in and help but there was no available change and her muscles tightened as adrenaline pulse through her blood. Kairis wondered what it was that made Atlas decide to attack, the cougar obviously wanted to flee desperately and it nearly killed the she wolf to watch her friend get torn apart in the cats attempts to flee...
Then there was the moment that the two beasts separated as the wolf was flung off the cougar. Immediately Kairis jumped between the two of them and braced herself to take the brunt of a blow from the furious animal and she let out a vicious snarl as her hacklsd raised up along her spine and onto her shoulder blades. Alas, the cat fled though and Kairis jumped after it snapping her muzzle closed just mere inches from its tail before she came to her senses and realized that Atlas needed her.
"I'm fine, you need to lay down though." She stately fiercely at the wolf as he turned to make sure she wasn't harmed. As Kairis made eye contact with the male her heart stumbled over herself and she felt a flood of emotions for him. If she could cry she would have at that very moment... but he was ok, thank god he was ok... she thought as she quickly made her way over to his side as he collapsed on the ground.
"Atlas!" she yelped and instinctively curled herself around him protectively. On further inspection she found that his wounds would not be life threatening but the amount of blood that poured from them make her feel slightly nauseous at the smell. It was not a good smell such as the fresh blood of a still warm deer. Cautiously she licked his wounds whether he wanted her to or not, she wouldn't let them get infected from the dirt and whatever diseases the mountain lion could be carrying. To her, this treatment she was giving Atlas reminded her of her life in a pack... When you thought about it, it was marvelous how the two lone wolves haven't known each other that long and aren't even mates but were still caring enough for each other to work together.
She pulled herself even closer to the male and listened to his heartbeat from a very precious moments, wondering what would have happened if the attack was worse... she shuddered and felt all strength leave her. She was tired but she would live, and just worried about Atlas, did he break anything in the fall? she wondered.
"Atlas, how are you? Please tell me you're ok... I can find help if you need it! Why would you attack the cougar like that? It wanted to escape, couldn't you tell? You're hurt..." She sounded like a mother scolding a young wolf at that moment but she didn't care as she let a worried whimper out and her green eyes fretted over the wolf.

Atlas lay there, his vision blurred a bit and his head was hot and dizzy. He had fallen from exhaustion and blood loss. He felt the warmth of Kairis wrap around him and heard her voice. "Kairis," He said with relief. The cat was gone obviously, and she was perfectly unharmed. He couldn't say the same for himself, but he didn't mind it in the least. He felt her begin to wash his wounds, and the touch made him quiver a bit. "Atlas, how are you? Please tell me you're OK... I can find help if you need it! Why would you attack the cougar like that? It wanted to escape, couldn't you tell? You're hurt..."Atlas let out a big sigh. Her voice was the loveliest sound he'd ever heard. He smiled faintly at her scolding. "I'll . . . be alright." He slowly leaned his head up and let out a groan. "I'm just glad you're . . .you're safe."He looked at her face, her white fur, her green eyes. A strong feeling welled up within him, stronger than he'd ever felt before. It filled him, consumed him, erased everything else from his being. And suddenly, his pack, his alpha, his mission . . . they all meant nothing. Nothing. He was shredded by the cat's claws, but he'd never felt better in his life. He wanted to jump up and make a play bow, but of course he was in no condition to. He was elated, despite his wounds. "Kairis," Atlas said, and his eyes were open and clear as he stared into hers. His brows creased with concern and seriousness. "I love you."He was admitting it to himself as much as to her. It was a bold statement, a clear defined rebellion against himself and who he'd been taught to be. He knew he'd just owned up to his own weak mind and feeble resolve. But he didn't feel as terrible about it as he thought he would. The two-toned male sighed deeply, greatly relieved of the pressure that had been building in him all this time. He stared tiredly at Kairis, not knowing what her reaction to his revelation might be. "I was . . . afraid for you. That's why I attacked it. I'm sorry if-" He felt a jab of pain in his back which ceased his words and made him cringe. "Agh!" He let a bit of pain come through his teeth. He waited a moment until the pain faded. "I'm sorry," He said again. Whether it was for being hurt or revealing his love he didn't know. He felt he should explain himself to her, to make her understand. But he found he couldn't find any words. Atlas kept his eyes on Kairis, searching for her reaction, hoping it wouldn't be too unbearable. Surely she would reject him. He felt a wolf like Kairis would think him too pathetic and vulnerable. She most likely thought he was strange and overly devoted to his pack. He lay his head down, his heart breaking already. I really am a weakling, he told himself. "I'll leave if you wish me to," He said, and the words poisoned him as he spoke them.
