"Sparrow, you're amazing!" The pup smiled at Solitaire's excitement and trotted over before dropping the beaver at her feet. His companion leapt down from the rock and nuzzled him, hopping around excitedly. Her tail seemed to curl and Sparrow took note to ask her about it later- he wasn't familiar with curling tails, perhaps it was a disfunction, or maybe just a 'husker' thing.
The male nuzzled her in return, and barked at the contagious happiness. Solitaire yapped as well and Sparrow felt accomplished. "How did you catch such a big brute? Oh, it doesn't matter, I guess. What matters is you're amazing!" He laughed wholeheartedly, rolling his eyes, "I'm not that good. Infact I caught the beaver after having followed what you said earlier about having caught on to it's scent. Marvelous little idiot had a huge dam! Funny things, beave--"
"Sparrow, Sparrow, he's a retriever, He'll go out, and get you a beaver!"
Sparrow fell onto his back with laughter, barking a little before rolling back on his feet and shaking off the excess mud. He twitched his ears and grinned lopsidedly. "It probably won't be enough to keep us full by noon but..." Sparrow trailed off thoughtfully. He was already skin and bones, he didn't want Solitaire to be as well... He'd have to go hunting again. He dismissed the thoughts and wore his smile again, "-- Well, let's dig in!" And took a well-earned bite.

The beaver was delicous to Solitaire. She couldnt remember ever having eaten one before, but she liked the musky taste. She was quite full very quickly and sat back to let Sparrow eat what he wanted. The tail was odd but interesting and Solitaire chewed it off. She threw it up and caught it, then shook it again for good measure. She wanted to play with it more, but her paw began to throb. She layed down near Sparrow and washed the cut between her toes. She suddenly heard something in the bushes several yards away.
"Do you hear that Sparrow?" She asked her friend. It sounded like a cry, or a bleet. Solitaire did not recognize the sound. Silence followed for several minutes and Solitaire decided to forget about it. Then it started again. She stood up with her paw held to her body, trying to pinpont the sound. Finally her curiosity got the better of her.
"Sparrow, could you go look over there? See if what's making that noise is in that thick brush."
(OCC: Argh! my muse is low, it makes me sad. sorry its short.)

Solitaire seemed to enjoy the beaver, Sparrow noticed while tearing off a hind leg. He soon finished the leg and welcomed the feeling of the warm food in his stomach. Wagging his tail and ripping off another piece, Sparrow watched as Solitaire chew off the tail and began to play.
The pup laughed as the romping quickly ended and his friend lay down to clean her paw. Sparrow himself felt his ears fold back slightly in embarrassment as he realized he should probably clean himself up too. Running his rough tongue over his bloodied maw, he began to groom his chestnut brown fur.
Suddenly his left ear rotated to meet the sound of bushes behind pushed apart and Sparrow lifted his head in the direction of the sound. His right ear flicked in attention at Solitaire's questioning tone: "Do you hear that, Sparrow?" The male wagged his tail once; suspicion making him hesitant to speak aloud. A couple moments of silence passed and Sparrow shrugged and ripped off the beaver's front leg when he heard it again and dropped the meat.
"Sparrow, could you go look over there? See if what's making that noise is in that thick brush." Solitaire said. Sparrow trusted her judgement in pinpointing the sound and he nodded before lowering his neck and stalking near silently.
His nose was taking in scents but he couldn't seem to smell anything that wasn't there before. He decided to cut the laziness and began to seriously try to find scents and came across one from the thick bush Solitaire mentioned. He stalked towards the smell- it was musky, small, definitely female and had a curiously fishy edge to it. Then he recognized it.
Shaking his head, and gawking for a moment, Sparrow lifted his head from stalking position to catch sight of a the behind of a brown body nearly his size. Quickly darting away on his toes, Sparrow nudged Solitaire roughly, urging her to get up. "We should get going...! Now!"

Solitaire watched anxiously as Sparrow nodded and made his way over to inspect the bushes. She felt guilty for asking him to do it and not investigating herself. But Sparrow had killed a beaver, and Solitaire found she had new confidence in him and admiration. She flopped her tail in encouragement. Sparrow sniffed the bushes, looking around the place she had directed him to. He stayed fro a moment and Solitaire's curiosity mounted. Suddenly he turned, and in a flurry, raced up to her and nudged her to get up and shouting.
"What Sparrow?" She asked, frightened. "What is it?"

"It's a b-bear!" He exclaimed in a loud whisper. He didn't want the cub hearing them, for if it felt provoked, it could call for it's mother and in a flash, Sparrow knew the summon would be granted.
"Solitaire, c'mon, we have to go!" He said. The bravery and accomplishment that was once written on his features were now dawned with fear and anxiety. The wolf's fur was beginning to bristle from the tips of his ears down to the end of his chest, slowly making his legs stiff; instinctively reacting to the bear's musky scent still stuffed in his nose. Once he was sure Solitaire was on her feet, he began a slow and steady trot further from the beach. "We can't afford to take any of the food, it might track us."

Solitaire's ears flew back at the revelation of Sparrow's fright. Bear. The word bounced around in her head.
"Solitaire, c'mon, we have to go!" Sparrow said.
Solitaire wasted no time. She hopped several steps and then gave her cut a final lick. The licking had helped and the cut was clotted. There was still some chance of getting debris in the wound, but Solitaire decided the chance of meeting a mama bear was greater and much more dangerous. She put paw to ground on all fours. After a few strides she didn't notice the little pain as much anyway. Sparrow commented to leave the food. Solitaire figured the smell had lured the bear cub close in the first place. He could have it, they had eaten most of it anyway.
The two wolves wasted no time, and made a clear shot away from the frozen lake and the area surrounding it. As they ran, Solitaire began to love the feeling. So much in fact, she didn't want to stop. The wind felt glorious and her paw barely bothered her. She felt an exhiliration of fear and victory for escaping danger. Her tongue hung freely as she panted. They continued running, leaping and bounding over grass and rocks, down hills and up, around trees and boulders.
They flew.
