Packs are groups of wolves that live together, often related but occassionally made up of unrelated wolves.
There are specific hierarchies within packs, often but not always including the following ranks;
Alphas: Consistant within all packs; the or dominant pair who often are the only breeding pair. Not all packs have two alphas, and they don't always have to be mates. They always eat first.
Betas: Optional rank; the second-in-command pair who sometimes have breeding rights. Not all packs have two of these, and they don't have to be mates.
Subordinates: Consistant in all packs; these wolves that make up the majority of the pack. Though sometimes broken up into more specific ranks, these wolves do the hunting, fighting, and protecting of the pack, respecting their superiors and dominating the inferiors. Most packs share the weight of the pups, but in some packs only certain wolves do. Very rarely have breeding rights.
Omegas: Consistant in most packs; omegas are the lowest ranking wolves besides pups. They are picked on by the other wolves, and always eat last. However, they do play important roles in the pack, as they engage play, and relieve stress off of the pack. In some packs, they are the only ones who take consistant care of the pups, while other members provide food. Close to never have breeding rights. Most impregnated/breeding omegas are chased out/killed.
Flocks Are groups of birds that differ greatly with the species. Some birds flock together only for migration, others for life. They're pretty much the same general idea as packs, but there are differences all the same.
Note: on Impulse, we permit multi-species flocks, so you can have different species of birds within the same flock.
Ranks:
Leaders: Optional rank; the leading pair/member in a flock. Some flocks don't have one, but still have consistant hierarchies. These birds would mostly be looked up to and respected by others, rather than have control.
((OKAY SO THERE AREN'T ACTUALLY RANKS IN FLOCKS SO I'M JUST MAKING THESE OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD AND I CAN'T THINK SO I'LL PUT UP A POLL OR EDIT LATER OR SOMETHING SO YEAH))
NOTE: Flocks are only consistant in certain species. The majority of permittable birds on Impulse don't commonly flock, only breed. However, flocks are, nevertheless, permitted in species that wouldn't normally do this. But to a certain extent. Some species will be all to unreasonable, so pm either Kairis or Luna before creating/entering a flock.
